Welcome to Hooked on Walking holidays and our walking holidays in Scotland. This particular hiking vacation in Scotland is available as a 7 night self guided walking tour in the fabulous Lochaber region of the Scottish Highlands around the outdoor capital of the Highlands Fort William. Over your 6 days of walking you will be 2 centre based allowing you time to explore and relax in this wonderful region. The Lochaber region is home of Ben Nevis , the UK’s highest peak at 1344m , maybe not as high as Alpine mountains but to walk this peak you start at near sea level. We have the Ben Nevis walk as a challenge for experienced walkers only, as it should not be attempted by the unprepared hiker.

Available any day May - September
Level 2-3 self guided tour ( Ben Nevis level 4 )
Day 1 Arrival Fort William / Kinlochleven.jpg)
When you arrive in Fort William take a taxi or public bus to Kinlochleven.
Day 2 Kinlochleven heights 10.6 miles 17km up 400m
Today we follow the ancient tracks above Kinlochleven to Loch Eilde mor and onwards to the Blackwater reservoir before return back down the river valley to Kinlochleven. Magnificent views over the Loch Leven Valley await you on this days walking.
Day 3 Ballachulish 8.75 miles 14km up 400m
Today you take a short bus transfer to Ballachulish further along the south side Loch Leven. You climb up the mountains to the south of Ballachilish the region of the McDonald massacres of Glencoe in 1692. You return the same way but now with stunning views north over Loch Leven and in the far distance the giant of Ben Nevis. Return to Kinlochleven by bus.
Day 4 West Highland Way to Fort William 13.8 miles , 22km up 500m
Today you set off along the final stage of the West Highland Way. This is one of the most beautiful stages as you leave behind Loch Leven and climb over to the Nevis Valley before descending to Fort William. On your right you will see Ben Nevis.
Day 5 Nevis Valley 7.8 miles 12.6km up 100m
Today an easier walk up the River Nevis Valley - you will see the path which you may take tomorrow if you take the challenge up Ben Nevis. The route today is pretty easy but you do have sum stream crossings and the ground can become wet and boggy in places.
Day 6 Rest Day or Ben Nevis challenge 11.3 miles , 18km up 1350m.jpg)
Today you have a rest day in Fort William or the challenge up Ben Nevis. If you climb up Ben Nevis leave early as this can be a 9 hour trek for most. If you plan on a rest why not take a ride on the ancient steam train which runs from Fort William to Mallaig on the road to the Isles. This steam train was used in the famous scene of Harry Potter where Harry with his mate Ron are riding in the flying car and the steam train rides below across a high level ancient bridge. You will be amazed by the stunning remote scenes on this train trip. Other options are a walk to Neptune’s Staircase a mile out of Fort William where a series of Lochs take barges up to the Caledonian Canal above Loch Linnhe.
Day 7 Circular Walk around Loch Oich 10 miles 16km up 350m
Today you take a short bus transfer to Invergarry where you walk around Loch Oich , a wonderful scenic walk along a disused railway line and forest tracks. Return back to Fort Willam by bus.
