Cycling in Trossachs and Perthshire

Welcome to Hooked on Cycling Holidays and our cycling holidays through the Trossachs and Highland Perthshire. This cycling holiday is available as a seven night cycling tour through the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park which is Scotland’s first National Park. The region is famous for its fabulous scenery with mountains and Lochs. This is a cycle tour which encompasses all about Scotland , hills , Lochs , Castles , Culture and Whisky. This cycling holiday can be adopted for all abilities with some minor adjustments meaning we can cater for beginner and also experienced cyclists. We have therefore graded this Scottish cycling holiday as wanderer , explorer. This Scottish cycling holiday is available as a self led cycle tour and also a group cycle based tour. You will be staying in staying in 3 star hotels and Guest Houses

 

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Callander

Day 2 Loch Katrine Loop 20 or 35 miles ( 32 to 56 km )

A wonderful first days cycling alongside Loch Venachar to Loch Katrine with great views across the Loch at the surrounding forest clad hills. At Loch Katrine if time permits you can take a ride on the 100 year old steamer boat to the far side of the Loch and take a ride back along the very secluded private road. The route back takes in the forest traLoch Katrine and Sir Walter Scott  Steamercks of the Queen Elizabeth forest park.

Day 3 Callander - Doune Castle Loop 24 to 35 miles ( 38 to56 km )

Setting of south along the quiet country roads to Doune , home of a famous Castle . After exploring the Castle and little town either take a circular route back or maybe continue onto Dunblane and visit the wonderful Cathedral.

Day 4 Callander to Killin 25 to 38 miles (40 to 60 km )

Using mainly cycle trials and quiet roads you will cycle passed further stunning lochs before having the chance to see Rob Roy’s grave. Then climb gently over the pass to Killin and the chance to sit and watch the day or evening go by at the Falls of Dochart.

Day 5 Killin to Aberfedly  28 to 38 miles ( 45 to 60 km )

Various options allow you to either cycle the undulatinLoch Achrayg lane around Loch Tay and visit the Scottish Crannog Centre or cycle over the mountain range to the next Glen before descending what is said to be Scotland’s longest enclosed Glen. Fortingall is famous for having the worlds oldest Yew tree sitting within the tiny historic village.

Day 6 Aberfeldy to Pitlochry 18 to 33 miles ( 29 to 53 km )

Initially following the National Cycle Network along the river valley towards the highland town of Aberfeldy past Castle Menzies of Clan Menzies. Aberfeldy allows plenty to visit , a whiskey distillery , oatmeal biscuit factory or relax on the river front with a picnic and walk the famous bridge across the Tay River built for General Wades network of military roads.

Day 7 The Pitlochry Loop 14, 22 , 36 miles ( 22 , 35 , 58 km )

A day to explore the tourist attractions in the wonderful Falls of Dochart KillinHighland town or take a days cycling around this great area. Visit the Fish and Dam ladder if lucky and in season see the salmon jumping the ladder , the Festival open air theatre is worth a visit or try one of the two distilleries nearby , the Bells and Edradour Scotland’s smallest. Cycle north and visit the Killiecrankie visitor centre the centre point of the Jacobite rising. Further North a few miles is Blair Athol with Scotland’s most visited Castle Blair Castle home of the Athol family . The picturesque route around Loch Tummel will provide some break taking scenery to make this days stop over truly unforgettable.
